About
Beto O’Rourke was born in El Paso, Texas in 1972. In El Paso, his father served as the County Commissioner and judge and his mother owned a high end furniture store. Beto O’Rourke was a member of a computer hacker group in his teenage years, despite his nefarious beginnings he attended Columbia University for his upper education and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. O’Rourke has dealt multiple times with issues concerning the police; in 1995 he was charged for burglary for breaking into the University of Texas at El Paso physical plant, although the case was later dropped as the plant refused to press charges. In 1998, O’Rourke faced prosecution for driving while intoxicated; these charges were also dismissed after he completed a court ordered program. In 2005, O’Rourke was elected into city council and voted to be mayor pro term and in 2007 he was again reelected into city council. In 2012, he ran for the House of Representatives and served from 2013-2019.
