About
Cory Booker was born in Washington DC in 1969 and grew up in Harrington Park, New Jersey. Booker was raised religious and attended Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan; after graduating, he went to Stanford and played football while getting a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a Master of Arts in sociology. Booker received the Rhodes scholarship and attended Oxford to earn his honor degree in US history and earned a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. He served as the mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013 and in 2013 won the election to become senator of New Jersey. Booker is the first African American senator from New Jersey and the first African American senator since Obama in 2004.

Booker is a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee. He supports the Green New Deal and has shaped policies to protect clean air, water, and coastlines.
- Healthcare
Booker supports Medicare for all and eliminating privates companies.
- Abortion
Booker strongly defends a women’s right to have birth control, and other services, easily accessible.
- Social Security
Booker opposes raising the retirement age for social security and recognizes the strong effects it has on people’s lives.
- Education
Booker is a supporter of charter schools and believes that college tuition should be lowered to reduce later debt.
- Gun Control
Booker aims to create a national licensing system.
- Immigration
Booker wants to supports the “dreamer children” and block bans that limit immigration. He advocates that this is the foundation of the United States and thus is should not be constricted.
- Taxes
Booker has released a plan called The Rise Credit, this plan would “expand the eligibility of the earned income tax credit to households usually left out,” as Booker stated.
- Criminal Justice
Booker proposed the REDEEM act, this act increases protections for juvenile offenders and allows ex-offenders to have an easier chance sealing their records. He was also a co-sponsor of the First Step Act.
- LGBTQ Rights
Booker supports equal rights for members of the LGBTQ community and wants to expand the rights on same-sex marriage.
- Foreign Policy
Booker aims to rebuild relationships with foreign nations and feels that the United States should be aware of the pressing issues of other countries and aim to peacefully help them instead of becoming violently involved.
