About
Bennet was born in New Delhi, India as his father was an aid to the US ambassador. His mother was born in Poland and is a Holocaust survivor that immigrated to the US. He father served in many positions in politics and Bennet grew up in Washington DC. He attended Wesleyan University and Yale Law School. After law school he served as a clerk in the court of appeals and worked as an attorney in the Clinton administration. He also served as the Superintendent of the Denver Public Schools. Bennet has been the senator of Colorado since 2010 and is married to Susan Dagget and has three daughters. He recently was diagnosed with cancer and this became his spur to run in the presidential election.
Issues
Bennet aims to update specific fields of the economy and increase infrastructure spending.On the Issues
- Climate Change
Bennet aims to increase federal regulations of greenhouse gas emissions and rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement. He is willing to approve the Keystone XL pipeline in exchange for emission reduction measures.
- Healthcare
Bennet wants to keep Obamacare and he is a co-sponsor of the American Family Act. He believes in universal healthcare and Medicare X, a universal coverage that does not completely end private insurance.
- Abortion
Bennet is pro-choice and states that abortion should not be highly restricted. He also believes that birth control should be easy to acquire and covered under insurance.
- Social Security
Bennet aims to end the income tax cap and opposes privatizing benefits.
- Education
Bennet aims to lower college debt and achieve “quality education for every American.” He believes that standardized testing reporting requirements should be reduced and he is against the No Child Left Behind Act. Bennet supports expanding Pell Acts and is a co-sponsor of the “Finish Act.”
- Gun Control
Bennet supports gun control legislation and has worked to limit the loopholes in the sale of weapons.
- Immigration
Bennet is willing to support the border wall in exchange for more protections for illegal immigrants brought as children into the states. He was part of the “Gang of Eight” who created an immigration bill proposal that held reform the immigration system.
- Taxes
Bennet aims to expand the child tax credit.
- Criminal Justice
Bennet does not support mandatory sentences.
- LGBTQ Rights
Bennet aims to reverse the transgender military ban and supports same-sex marriage.
- Foreign Policy
Bennet believes that the trade policies and practices damage American economy, and he supports Israel.
