Issues
Governor Bullock has put an emphasis on campaign finance reform, vowing to challenge Citizens United and ensure that everyone has a fair voice in politics. On the Issues
- Climate Change
Bullock believes that the US is moving backwards on fighting climate change due to the influence of the president and dark money groups funded by the energy industry. He believes we should initiate swift regulatory action combatting fossil fuel emissions and convert to clean energy sources.
- Healthcare
Bullock believes that healthcare should be a right for all. He proposes building on the success of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), not dismantling it.
- Abortion
Bullock is pro-choice, and vetoed two bills aimed at restricting late-term abortions.
- Social Security
Bullock has vowed to protect and strengthen social security for future generations.
- Education
Bullock believes that no matter which zip code you grow up in, you should have great public schools that give you an opportunity to learn, grow, and prosper.
- Gun Control
In 2018, Bullock changed his positions to support universal background checks, limits on magazine sizes, temporary removal of firearms from potentially violent people (red flag laws), and banning certain types of "semiautomatic weapons".
- Immigration
Bullock has proposed that with the right leadership, we can find the common ground necessary to pass sensible, comprehensive immigration reform.
- Taxes
Bullock believes that the Trump tax cuts are hurting American workers and only benefitting large corporations and the 1%.
- Criminal Justice
In 2017, Bullock signed a number of bills expanding risk-assessment practices and early intervention programs in Montana's Department of Corrections with the goal of reducing Montana's prison population and recidivism rates.
- LGBTQ Rights
Bullock supports same-sex marriage, and praised a federal judge for striking down Montana's same-sex marriage ban in 2014. Bullock has also spoken at Pride rallies in Montana, and, in 2015, became the first sitting governor in Montana history to officiate a same-sex wedding.
- Foreign Policy
Governor Bullock believes that President Trump’s “America First” approach has turned into “America Alone”—isolating us from our allies, eroding our credibility, and making us less safe. Steve will keep America safe and restore our standing as a global leader.
