About
Gabbard was born in 1981 in Leeloaloa on American Somas main island of Tutuila. She moved to Hawaii when she was two and her father served in the Hawaii states senate. Her mother, who was from Indiana, is a practicing Hindu of German descent, and as a teenager Tulsi also practiced Hinduism. Tulsi was homeschooled and attended Hawaii Pacific University to earn a bachelor’s of science and business administration. Tulsi served in a field medical unit of the Hawaii National Guard and served from 2008-2009 in Kuwait. Tulsi was elected into the Hawaii House of Representatives in 2013 and still currently holds that position.

Gabbard has changed her stance from the beginning of her career; whereas she was initially against same-sex marriage, she has now said that she supports the LGBTQ community and their rights.
